²ÝÁñÊÓƵ Support Fund - healthcare student information

Am I eligible to apply?

From 2020/21 onwards, most new and continuing students (approved for their Student Finance England funding package) are able to apply for the NHS Training Grant, a non-means tested grant of £5,000 each academic year for students on the following courses: Nursing; Midwifery; Paramedicine; Speech and Language Therapy.

You may be able to apply for additional funding depending on your circumstances:

  • an extra £2,000 per year 'Parental Support' for students with parental responsibility
  • an extra £1,000 per year 'Specialist Subject Payment' available to students who started their course from Sep 2020 onwards, where there is a shortage specialism, such as Mental Health Nursing; Learning Disability Nursing.

You don’t pay any of these grants back and you can apply via your NHS Learning Support Fund online account. Please check your eligibility on the .

If you are in financial hardship, please check your eligibility for the .

Due to the significant increase in funding available, this means that students in receipt of the NHS Training Grant will not be eligible to apply to the ²ÝÁñÊÓƵ Support Fund. However, there is an exception, if you need to apply for the ‘DSA for Laptop Shortfall’, students will be permitted to apply, but only for this category. Use the other tabs for more information.

Please note, it is much better for you financially to apply for the NHS Training Grant, as you would receive significantly more funding from the NHS.

If you are not eligible for any of the above grants from the NHS, you may still be eligible to apply to the ²ÝÁñÊÓƵ Support Fund – please refer to the other tabs for more information.
